How long will I need to go to therapy?
That's a question often asked by those new to therapy, and a very good one. The number of recommended sessions insurance may approve varies by diagnosis and treatment plan. Placing unrealistic caps on the number of sessions inhibits a collaborative and therapeutic relationship. Additionally, some people prefer to keep their diagnosis and sessions private from their employer/insurance plan. This journey is a personal one, and it should be owned by the client.
What can I expect at the beginning of therapy?
Our first interaction will be a 15 minute discovery conversation, during which you will share the reason you're seeking therapy, and I will share my approach to therapy. If we decide that we will move forward, we will agree on a day and time for the first in-person or virtual appointment. I will forward to you a Therapy Intake form via email prior to this first appointment that you can either complete and return to me via email or bring to the first appointment. The first session will include reviewing the form, discussing your issue(s) and making a plan for future visits.
What type of therapy do you use?
There are many different types of therapy, and they can be utilized for specific conditions. My goal is to find the best approach for what will help you. We will spend time discussing how challenging situations, emotions and behaviors are affecting your life, which will help to guide the type of therapy which will be most effective.
